Café du Soul feat. Pat Fritz

“Elegant, stylish and sexy through and through” is how one press review described the acoustic project Café du Soul led by singer, guitarist and songwriter Pat Fritz. Together with Claus Müller on drums and Stefan Rupp on bass, Fritz takes classics and current songs from soul, pop and Latin music and reinterprets them with fresh ideas and his own exciting approach. Carlos Santana is banished to the nylon guitar, Eric Burdon is quoted without a Hammond organ, Freakpower, Outlandish and Everlast learn to dance without sample loops. Jack Johnson, Oasis and Steve Miller are transplanted to the Caribbean and the sounds of the Buenavista Social Club vibrate longingly on just a few strings. The instrumentation, reduced to the essentials, creates a transparent sound with a driving groove, groovy, furious, atmospheric, concertante and danceable at the same time.
