Kammerchor Helmholtz-Gymnasium

For over 30 years, pupils in the chamber choir of Karlsruhe's Helmholtz-Gymnasium have dedicated themselves to rehearsing secular and sacred a cappella music. One focus of the repertoire is a very broad selection of songs from international folklore from South American, South African and European regions as well as from the Middle East. Many of these pieces have been performed on various concert tours, including to South Africa, Chile, Argentina, Israel, Jordan, France, Russia, Poland and, most recently in 2022, Namibia with representative ensembles from the respective host country. The chamber choir has received a number of awards and prizes and qualified for the German Choir Competition in Freiburg, where it was rated ‘outstanding’ in 2018. In 2022, it won the Baden-Württemberg State Choir Competition. At the 2023 German Choir Competition in Hanover, it won the mixed youth choir category, among others. The vocal ensemble of around 40 singers is conducted by Stephan Aufenanger.
