Rhythm of Joy

An interactive concert experience for children aged 6 and over

Rhythm is everywhere! Discovering your own body as a musical instrument together, finding rhythms, exploring sounds and grooving together - that's what ‘Rhythm of Joy’ invites you to do. With this interactive concert experience, the Music Swap Lab and musicians from the Kammerakademie Nordbaden invite young festival visitors aged 6 and over to discover and create the soundscape of Beethoven's 9th Symphony using body percussion and self-built musical instruments. Music Swap Lab tutor Dominik Schad, who has been touring the world with the STOMP show for ten years, will also be there.

Those who want to delve even deeper into the world of orchestral music can also get active at the big Mount Klassik concert on Sunday. Thanks to the collaboration between the Kammerakademie Nordbaden and the Music Swap, this hands-on activity is the first time that the cultural stage and the main stage at DAS FEST have been linked.

Anyone who would like to make their own instrument from paper cups, clothes pegs, cardboard boxes and much more for the concert can get creative at the Music Swap Lab craft stand at the Glückskind craft station in the children's and culture area on the Thursday and Friday of the festival.

Everyone has the opportunity to make music at the Music Swap Lab. As a low-threshold offer, it anchors cultural participation and musical self-efficacy in the breadth of society. Whether they have previous musical knowledge or not - children, young people and adults of all ages can become part of the Germany-wide online orchestra thanks to video tutorials at various levels of difficulty. Since 2021, the Music Swap Lab has also been running various live workshops throughout Germany and developing regional projects that bring people, neighbourhoods and communities together through music. The Music Swap Lab is a project of the Zukunftslabor - an initiative of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and takes place as part of a value partnership with dm-drogerie markt.
